Wesley Carroll Coggins

Wesley Carroll Coggins, known to his loved ones as Paw Paw, peacefully completed his journey on December 13, 2023, in Gastonia, North Carolina, at the age of 77. He was born on March 28, 1946, in Gastonia, NC, to his parents Vinnie Lee Coggins and Fred John Coggins. Wesley's life was a testament to humility, gratitude, and respect for all of creation. He approached each day with a deep reverence for the blessings bestowed upon him and lived a life rooted in faith and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Clyde, Jim, Edd, Bill, Freddie, and Bobby and two sisters, Frances Barbery and Wanda Coggins, and one grandson, Zachary Coggins.

Wesley is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Lee Coggins, and his children: Christy Jarjoura & husband, Chris, Glenda Tyler & husband, Grayling, Debra Floyd, Teresa Geyer & husband, John, Cynthia Davis & husband, Wayne, Richard Coggins & wife, Kathie, Alan Coggins & wife, Candice, and Joey Coggins. He was also a loving brother to Aretha Gilchrist. Wesley's heart overflowed with joy as he witnessed the growth and love within his family. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, each one a precious gift from above.

In addition to his devotion to his family, Wesley answered the call to serve his country in the Army, carrying himself with honor and unwavering dedication. His military associations were not just a duty, but a reflection of his commitment to protect and defend the values he held dear.

Beyond his military service, Wesley found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He embraced the art of bowling, the excitement of baseball, and the freedom of dancing. He was an avid trivia player. Through these hobbies, he fostered connections and created cherished memories with those around him.

As we bid farewell to Wesley Carroll Coggins, we honor his life and the legacy he leaves behind. His spirit of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of creation will forever inspire us. May we carry these virtues in our hearts as we remember his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.

A funeral service to celebrate Wesley's life will be held on Monday, December 18th, at 1:00 PM at DayStar Baptist Church, 211 Smith Road, Mt. Holly, NC.  His family will receive friends before the service from 12:00 to 12:45 also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, a testament to Wesley's compassionate and giving nature.
